Jammu: Former chief minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that he hoped Jammu and Kashmir doesn't face the flood situation that took place in September last year, over the flood alert issued in the state following incessant rainfall.

"It is true that water of river Jhelum has crossed the danger mark. But, there is a huge difference in the water levels of September and now. I hope and pray that we don't have to face the same situation we faced in September," Abdullah said.


Till now there is no loss to communication and the roads are open. The same officers who helped in September are doing it today as well. From the lessons learnt in September we can act better today," he added.


He further appealed to take help of all the officers who has worked in the rescue and relief operations in state floods last year in September.


"I would appeal to take help of experience of all the officers who helped in September floods. Even if some of them have retired, their experience can be of great help," he added.


The minister also took to Twitter for showing his concern over the current situation in the state.


"Clearly the situation is a cause for concern considering the forecast over the next few days. I just pray that the rain stops soon," Abdullah tweeted.


"Sangam is 18.4 alert sounded danger level is 23. Rambagh is 15.9, alert sounded danger level is 18. These are the most recent levels," he added.


Earlier in the day, the state government has issued a flood warning following incessant rainfall resulting in rise in water level of Jhelum River.


People have moved to higher reaches after water entered few homes in low lying areas of Kashmir.


Heavy rainfall has also caused waterlogging in the state and power supply is down in most parts of Srinagar.


However, there has been a respite from rain from the past few hours.
