A terrorist belonging to Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen group was killed and an army jawan was injured in a gun battle between militants and security forces late on Sunday.

About two to three militants are reportedly holed up inside a house and retaliating with gunfire against the security forces.

One militant has been killed so far even as the attackers, numbering two to three, continued to hold fort late on Sunday night in Nai Basti in Kulgam's Buchroo area, according to media reports. A security personnel is injured in the gunfight.

The attack comes as several major Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad, were put on high alert on Sunday following a tip-off from Pakistan about an imminent strike by the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant group.

Security has also been tightened in Jammu and Kashmir after the alert.

Currently in Kulgam, a joint team of the army, CRPF and police has cordoned off the site of the attack and a door-to-door search operation is on to hunt down other militants who may be hiding in the area.
