Zee Media Bureau Thiruvananthapuram: The Supreme Court on Wednesday was told by the Amicus Curiae that there is no accounting for the massive gold and silver donations offered by the devotees at the famous Padmanabhaswamy temple located here. The court was suggested that auditing of the donations has to be done. The apex court said that the report on the famous temple was `disturbing` and that it will intervene soon on the matter after the Amicus Curiae report pointed at the mismanagement in the temple, which is administered by the Travancore royal family.
In its report, the Amicus Curiae said that the temple is in a poor condition and the key of the chamber where the gold is stored needs to be handed over to a district judge. When in 2011 five underground temple vaults of the 16th century temple were opened, a massive treasure trove estimating around Rs 1 lakh crore was found. There is one vault in the temple which is yet to be opened.
The hearing will continue on Thursday.
