Heartbreaking! Turned away from crematorium because he had no money, tribal cremates wife using garbage
On August 24, Dana Majhi, a resident of Melghar village in Kalahandi district, had carried his wife`s body on his shoulder and walked 10 km accompanied by his minor daughter after allegedly being denied a hearse by the district hospital.
Neemuch: It is simply a heartbreaking story.
A tribal, Jagdish, from the state of Madhya Pradesh was turned away from a crematorium and was not allowed to cremate his dead wife because he could not pay for it.
Not only that, he was also turned away from municipal corporation, with some people asking him to throw the body in the river.
However, Jagdish decided to perform the last rites and collected pieces of wood, polythene and rubber to cremate her.
This is what he had to say:
"Was turned away from municipal corporation. They said approach the corporator who is also a tribal, but he too refused to help. Some said throw her in the river, but I decided to collect pieces of wood, polythene and rubber to cremate her," he said, as per ANI.
The incident comes days after the story of Dana Majhi, the tribal man who carried his wife's body on his shoulder in Kalahandi district, hit the headlines.
On August 24, Majhi, a resident of Melghar village in Kalahandi district, had carried his wife's body on his shoulder and walked 10 km accompanied by his minor daughter after allegedly being denied a hearse by the district hospital.
The district administration had disengaged a male staff nurse and a security agency of the hospital on the charge of negligence in duty which led to Majhi carrying his wife's body on his shoulder despite the fact that the government has a programe for transportation of bodies from the hospital to the deceased's residence.
The incident created outrage across the country and left an impact abroad too.
Prime Minister of Baharin Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has reportedly extended financial help to Majhi's family.
