The accused was identified as Shehzad Ansari.

The victim girls, both eight years old, lived in the same locality in the suburban Amboli as the accused, police said tonight.

At around 8 pm yesterday, Ansari allegedly first tried to lure the two girls by offering them chocolates and ice-cream.

When the girls refused, he threatened them and took them to the society where he lived and raped them, the police said.

He has been booked under section 376 (rape) of IPC and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Ansari had a past criminal record, police said.
