Nashik: A major tragedy was on Wednesday averted after a fire broke out suddenly in a school van carrying 15 students on Nashik Road here, police said.

Minutes after noticing that smoke was emanating from the vehicle, the driver swung into action and rescued all the children on board with the help of locals and transported them to a safer spot.


The van caught fire as it crossed the flyover service road near Bytco square this morning but no one was injured in the mishap, police said.


The driver immediately informed the control room and fire-fighting tenders were rushed to the spot, they said.


However, no complaint has been registered so far in connection with the incident, police said adding further probe is underway.
