The fire started during a cultural programme - the Maharashtra night - just after the performance of actor Amitabh Bachchan.

According to TV reports, several VIPS were present at the event. Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Governor CV Rao who were present during the programme were quickly moved out of the area.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and his wife Rashmi Thackeray, actors Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan, ministers, parliamentarians, legislators, and other prominent personalities witnessing the performance were also shifted to safer places.

Meanwhile, the BMC said the fire could have been caused by an electric short- circuit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the 'Make in India Week' yesterday as a showcase event for the government's flagship manufacturing scheme.
