Mumbai: A police constable allegedly committed suicide by firing himself from his service rifle inside a local train on Sunday, police said.

Amar Gaidwad, who was on railway patrolling duty at Mumbai Central, was travelling in a second class compartment of a Churchgate-bound train from Borivali when he allegedly shot himself from his rifle at around 5:30 AM, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) official said.


Gaidwad was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead by doctors, the official said, adding the exact cause behind the death was yet not known.


Further investigation into the matter is on, he added.
