Sivaganga : Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Sunday called upon the self help groups, farmers and entrepreneurs to open bank accounts and avail loan facilities for their business and agricultural needs.
While inaugurating the 1,762nd branch of Corporation Bank at Dharmapatti here, he said, "Even very rich men were running their business or industry only by borrowing money from banks. They invested one share of money and borrowed four shares from banks to start or run the business." "Similarly farmers and SHG members should borrow money and do business or farming to come up in life", Chidambaram said.
"What is required to come up in life is focus, perseverance and money. Money can be borrowed from banks, while the other qualities one should develop," he said. Bank branches, which once used to exist in big cities and towns, have now come to the villages to help people, and the local public should also support the banks, he said.
