Kendrapara: Muslim scholars and moulavis in Odisha`s Kendrapara district have hailed the Supreme Court verdict on homosexuality.
"We are happy to know that the Supreme Court has set aside the decision of the Delhi High Court which had in 2009 decriminalized sexual relation between persons belonging to the same sex," said Moulavi Ainul Haq Asari, the Moulana of Minar mosque in Kendrapara.
Unnatural sex is against the tenets of Islam and homosexuality and lesbianism are offences under the Islamic and Indian Law, he said. "There has been an attempt to legalize the unnatural sex. Such things lead to unethical practices and are detrimental to the social ethos. The Supreme Court has rightly termed the same sex as illegal, Moulavi Asari observed. The government should ban any meeting or rally of persons who supports homosexuality in India, said Moulvi Sarafat Ali of Pattamundei.
