8:30pm: Tejpal grilled for over 5 hours, interrogation to resume on Monday
Judicial Magistrate Shama Joshi ordered six days` police custody of Tejpal after the prosecution sought his remand for 14 days. Crime Branch officials grilled him for over five hours.
Once they got him in their custody, the investigating officials took the Tehelka founder to their headquarters in Dona Paula and began questioning him on the sexual assault allegedly committed by him on his colleague in a hotel lift twice early last month.
The questioning was over around 8 PM and he was taken back to lock up, police sources said. The interrogation will resume tomorrow.
6:44 pm: Some leaders` silence on Tehelka case conspicuous, says BJP
BJP questioned the "conspicuous silence" of some leaders on the sexual assault of a journalist by former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal, saying they were very vocal on the rape and murder of Nirbhaya last year but are not speaking out now.
Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said on his Facebook page that Tejpal`s assault of a young journalist has led to an outrage similar to the one seen when the "inhuman and brutal rape and murder" of Nirbhaya took place last December.
Without naming the Congress, he said some leaders have been silent on the Tejpal case. BJP has alleged that Tejpal is close to the Congress and hence the ruling party is not criticising him.
3:30 pm: Centre cannot interfere in Tehelka case, says Shinde
Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said that the Centre cannot interfere in the sexual assault case.
2:30 pm: Tejpal to be interrogated today
Officers from the Crime Branch will now in interrogat Tejpal today.
The founder of Tehelka news magazine will also be shown CCTV footage which reportedly shows the young journalist running out of the elevator in distress after the alleged sexual assault.
1:40 pm: Tejpal will be taken to crime scene including hotel, elevator
During investigation, Tejpal will be taken to the hotel and lift where the victim had said that she was sexually assaulted.
Goa police is likely to seek extension of the police custody if their interrogation is not complete within the six-day period.
1:10 pm: Court remands Tejpal in police custody for six days
The court today sent Tejpal to 6-day police custody. The order was given after over an hour`s hearing in the case. Goa police has asked for 14-day police custody for Tejpal.
Tejpal will be taken to police station directly from the court where he will be interrogated on the alleged sexual assault case.
12:50 pm: Tejpal`s bail plea does not mention `political conspiracy` claim
Contrary to earlier stand, the bail plea of Tejpal did not mention anything about the sexual assault allegation being `politically motivated`.
North Goa District and Sessions judge Anuja Prabhudessai while passing the order on Saturday said that the application does not state that the victim made the accusation under any kind of political pressure.
12:10 pm: Tejpal appears before judicial magistrate
The hearing in the case has started and Tejpal has been produced before the judicial magistrate. Media has been restricted from entering the court room.

Tejpal`s wife and brother are also present in the court for hearing.
11:45 am: Tejpal arrives in Goa Session Court
Tejpal has reached Sessions Court in Goa and will be produced before judicial magistrate shortly.
Goa police is likely to seek Tejpal`s custody for 14 days to interrogate him in the sexual assault case.
11:00 am: Court permits Tejpal to have outside food, clothes
The court had given concession to Tejpal permitting him to have outside food during custody and allowed him to wear his own clothes. His lawyer was also granted daily visits to meet the former Tehelka editor while in custody.
9:45 am: Tejpal spends night in lock-up with murder accused
After arrest, Tejpal spent the entire night in lock-up and had to share it with two murder accused and an anti-social person.
9:15 am: Tarun Tejpal to be produced in court today
Former editor of Tehelka news magazine, Tarun Tejpal, will be produced before a judicial magistrate today.
Tejpal was arrested by the Crime Branch on Saturday after a young journalist accused him of sexually assaulting her twice in a Goa hotel last month. Goa police arrested Tejpal shortly after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by court.
