Washington: Microsoft has officially released its updated YouTube app for Windows Phone, however, the app appears nothing but the same feature where users were redirected to YouTube`s mobile website earlier.
The ongoing battle between Microsoft and YouTube owner Google is cited to be behind a proper functional app for the smartphone.
According to a website, last May, Microsoft built a YouTube app for Windows Phone 8, allowing ad-free video downloading experience, which was in violation of Google`s terms of service. After Google`s objection, Microsoft did update the app but users complained that the app did not function properly after Google had blocked access to YouTube content via Microsoft`s platform and demanded the app be developed using HTML5. However, Microsoft has confirmed that the new app is actually a very old version of the app but users are not completely satisfied who complained that the app is nothing but a link to YouTube homepage, the report added.
