New Delhi: Decades before Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger, there used to be a Yahoo Messenger that provided a platform to connected people with instant messaging and online chats.

Yahoo in its official blog post today declared that it is logging out its popular online free messaging and calling service of late 1990's on August 5th. After more than 18 years this legacy will soon become a history.


Initially launched as Yahoo Pager in 1998, the app was extremely popular among the people in Asia-Pacific region, according to the Venture Beat reports.


So, after the decided date users still using the app will no longer be able to log in or send messages.


The company in the blog post gave said, "While today we provide basic inter operation between the legacy product and the new Messenger, we encourage all of our users to complete their transition to the new Yahoo Messenger as we will no longer support the legacy platform as of August 5, 2016. We intend to continue our focused efforts on the new Messenger, with a goal of delivering the best experience to our users."
