Lal Thanzara, the Congress MLA who is the younger brother of chief minister Lal Thanhawla, was first elected to the state Assembly in 2008 and then in 2013.

He was inducted as Parliamentary Secretary in 2008 and assisted the Chief Minister in the latter's portfolios.

He was elevated to Minister of State (independent charge) for Information and Communication Technology and Health department while also assisting the chief minister in all the latter's portfolios.

Lal Thanzara resigned as Minister of state and legislator on August 18 last after allegations of 'conflict of interests' were levelled against him.

He was alleged to have held more than 21 per cent shares in a construction company which bagged crores of rupees worth road construction work under the state government.

Lal Thanzara's HP Food Products company was also alleged to have supplied crores of rupees worth nutrition items to the state Social Welfare department while being Parliamentary Secretary and later a minister of state.

Justifying his resignation, Lal Thanzara had said that allegations against him, though baseless and false, caused embarrassment to the government and the Congress party.
