Barnala: In another shocking incident in Barnala village of Punjab, a 32-year-old farmer and his 60-year-old mother had committed suicide in front of cops and bank officials on Tuesday.

As per reports they were being hounded by the bank officials to repay their loan.
 
The farmer had asked the bank officials for more time to pay back his loan but his plea was turned down. The bank officials were visiting the farmer to auction his land. On being refused more time to repay the loan, the farmer and his mother consumed pesticide and committed suicide.
 
At least five persons have been booked by the Punjab Police in this case.


As many as 116 farmers have committed suicide due to agrarian reasons so far this year, with maximum cases reported in Maharashtra, followed by Punjab and Telangana, the Parliament was informed today.
