MiG-27 aircraft crashes in Jodhpur, pilot safe
A MiG-27 fighter aircraft crashed adjacent to a house in an open area in Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
Jodhpur: A MiG-27 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Jodhpur in Rajasthan on Monday.
The pilot ejected safely from the aircraft.
The plane crashed adjacent to a house in an open area in Mahaveer Nagar, SHO Basni Police Station Rajesh Yadav told PTI.
The pilot was on a routine training mission. He had reported a technical problem and sought priority landing.
However, as the engine had failed, he had to eject, IAF sources said.
"An IAF MIG-27 aircraft crashed near Jodhpur on Monday at about 11.30 am. The aircraft was airborne from Jodhpur airbase and was on a routine training sortie. The pilot ejected safely," Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO) Manish Ojha said in a statement.
"A house has been damaged while some nearby houses have reported cracks. However, no casualty or serious injuries have been reported to anyone from the area where the plane crashed," a police official told IANS on phone from Jodhpur.
The area has been cordoned off and police officials have reached the spot.
Meanwhile, a Court of Inquiry into the crash has been ordered.
