The event - Machinery Expo 2016 - will feature exhibitors from across the country related to various industrial sectors, including food processing, garments, rubber and plastics, wood-based industries, ayurveda and herbal, electrical and electronics, handicrafts, general engineering and automobile servicing, showcasing their products.

"There are a number of technological and manufacturing solutions coming out from the young brains in the state. They should be given due recognition," said P.M. Francis, director, Department of Industries and Commerce, which is organising the event.

There will be 125 stalls and while other exhibitors are being charged, the space for Kerala student geeks from engineering and B-schools will be given the space free.

"We are aiming to create a strong ecosystem for fostering innovations and start-ups in the engineering sector. Our first-ever state-level machinery exhibition will help the student community to exhibit their innovations and find potential investors," Francis said.

The ideas and prototypes will be shortlisted by the organisers after a primary scrutiny in the colleges.
