New Delhi: Now, a transparent wooden home is on the verge of becoming a mainstream reality.

In a recent scientific breakthrough, the scientists at the University of Maryland invented a see-through wood that is not only stronger than glass but also provides a better insulation, according to Engadget.

The research team, headed by Liangbing Hu, made this incredible discovery by following a simple two-stage process.

In the first stage, team removed the tan and black color of the wood by boiling it in sodium hydroxide and other chemicals for roughly two hours. Then they poured epoxy over it which makes the wood four to five times stronger.

Although the chemical treatements make the transparent wood a little less environmental-friendly but scientists claim that it is more biodegradable than plastics.

During this whole experiment the treated wood maintains its original structure and natural channels.

The findings published in the journal Advanced Material highlight that these woods allow light to pass through them and that is why transparent wood shows a bright future for homes and building.
