At least 38 Myanmar nationals on board a stranded vessel have been rescued by the Sri Lankan Navy.
Colombo: At least 38 Myanmar nationals on board a stranded vessel have been rescued by the Sri Lankan Navy.
A naval spokesman said that its rescue ship `Sagara` had monitored a distress signal from the boat on which the Myanmarese had been travelling last night.
The distressed boat was reached this morning 250 nautical miles off the east coast, the navy said. They were being brought by the navy to the southern port of Galle. At least four adults and a child among the 38 were unwell and the navy was providing them with treatment. In a similar rescue operation by the navy early this month, some 138 Bangladesh and Myanmar nationals were found off the coast of Akkaraipattu in the east.
