Chennai: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday filed her nomination for upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2016 from RK Nagar constituency on Monday.
Around 5.6 crore people are eligible to cast their franchise in Tamil Nadu where about 65,000 polling booths will be set up.
Tamil Nadu is witnessing a multi-cornered contest involving ruling AIADMK, DMK, PWF-DMDK-TMC combine and PMK and the BJP-led alliance.
Among the top leaders who campaigned were AIADMK supremo, DMK president M Karunanidhi, his son MK Stalin, DMDK founder Vijayakant, MDMK's Vaiko and PMK's Chief Ministerial candidate Anbumani Ramadoss.
The various fronts led by AIADMK, DMK, DMDK, PMK, and the Bharatiya Janata Party are contesting in all the 234 seats. The nominations by these party's candidates as well as from other parties and by independents is expected to be around 1,500.
