Osmania University beef festival: BJP MLA Raja Singh arrested
BJP MLA Raja Singh had threatened to cause disruptions to the Osmania beef festival slated to be organised today.
Hyderabad: In order to avoid any breach in law and order situation, the city police on Thursday arrested Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Raja Singh on a 'preventive basis' as he had threatened to cause disruptions to the Beef Festival slated to be organised today in Osmania University in Telangana.
"Today in the morning, the police came to my house and arrested me. When I asked the ACP as to why they have arrested me, he said that it was as per the orders of the commissioner," Singh said.
"I just want to tell the commissioner that we have been constantly requesting to stop this beef festival in order to maintain law and order in the city," he added.
He alleged that police was working as per the rules of the state government and was arresting cow devotees like him.
"TRS Government and MIM Party are behind this beef festival in Osmania University. They are doing this only to gain political mileage. I strongly condemn this festival and would like to tell all the students to concentrate on their studies," he said.
He also warned that the party workers would try and stop the people from organising the beef festival, not only in Telangana but in the whole nation.
Meanwhile, ACP, Goshamahal, West Zone, K. Ram Gopal said that they arrested the BJP MLA on a preventative basis.
"Today at 7 a.m. in the morning, we did preventive arrest of Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh. We have taken him in custody on a preventive basis. He is brought in Sainath Ganj police station," he said.
The police also detained 16 students from Ambedkar hostel of Osmania University, who were allegedly planning to organise a beef festival on the campus.
The action comes in the wake of amped up security on the campus, as there had been announcements that some sections of the University's students will organise a beef fest on the occasion of World Human Rights Day.
