Samajwadi family feud shadows Akhilesh Yadav`s new UP campaign video, Mulayam absent
Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav`s son Akhilesh has recently released a new campaign video in which he has expressed his love for his state `Uttar Pradesh`.
New Delhi: Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav's son and Chief Minister Akhilesh, who is in the centre of a bitter family feud, has featured in a new campaign video in which he has expressed his love for his state Uttar Pradesh.
Interestingly, the video, which has surfaced amid an ongoing power tussle between Akhilesh and his uncle Shivpal Yadav - a powerful figure in the ruling Samajwadi Party - doesn't feature party supremo and his father Mulayam Singh Yadav or any other party leader except his wife and party MP Dimple Yadav.
The video, which aims to repackage Akhilesh as a youth icon with a mass appeal in both rural and the urban pockets of the state, opens with the pledge: "Every day I commit myself to the future of Uttar Pradesh".
The two-minute video later shows Akhilesh at the breakfast table, with wife Dimple Yadav and their kids.
In the video, the UP CM can also be seen distributing relief material to Muzaffarnagar riot victims.
As the video ends, the Chief Minister is interrupted by his children during a meeting.
He drops everything to play cricket with them.
Despite the high-voltage family fight, the new campaign video attempts to convey a message to the vast electorate that the welfare of Uttar Pradesh is the only agenda of its young and dynamic chief minister.
“I am working on my campaign and am totally focused on the planned Rath Yatra,” Akhilesh had recently told TV channels, adding, “Am busy now with showcasing the campaigning theme and development work. Ultimately, people will vote on the basis of development not caste.”
The video also seeks to dispel rumours that the ongoing power tussle has distracted Akhilesh from his mission to transform UP into ''Uttam Pradesh'' – a promise made by the Samajwadi Party during last assembly polls.
