Reports say that the man named Srikant and his family had no food or money for the last 15-20 days.

The administration has said that the 40-year-old died due to illness and refused to accept that it was death due to starvation. However, some reports said that no food substance was found from Srikant's body during post-mortem.

Notably, the family was in distress condition with no ration card or Below Poverty Line (BPL) card.

The District Magistrate has reportedly acknowledged that Srikant might have died due to starvation, but his death cannot be attributed to acute poverty.

After much hullabaloo, the authorities have given Srikant's mother one sack of rice and wheat.

Srikant's death puts a big question mark on Samajwadi Party's tall claims on reducing poverty in the state.
