Speaking in the Rajya Sabha after the entire house, including members of the BJP, condemned the shocking remark by party leader Daya Shankar, Mayawati said, “Everybody gives me respect and calls me behenji. The person who has said this (prostitute) has not said this to me but to his daughter, sister, and mother.”

While welcoming Leader of the House Arun Jaitley's statement condemning the remark, Mayawati also warned the BJP and said that the party will have to face the consequences of insulting a Dalit's daughter.

“The country will never forgive the BJP,” she said.

The four-time former UP CM added that she has dedicated her whole life to the service of the downtrodden and has never used disparaging remarks against anyone.

“The fight is of ideology and I may have made many strong statements but I never made such remarks,” she added.
