Agra: Three police constables were on Saturday suspended for their alleged involvement in several cases of robbery. Constables -- Jitendra Singh, Vivek Singh and Chandrashekhar-- have been booked and suspended, said Shalabh Mathur, Senior Superintendent of Police.
He said that the accused are absconding.
The officer said that the three policemen were also using a jeep with beacon atop in the crime. Along with a gang of robbers they used to waylaid vehicles on the highway and rob the occupants.
The matter came to light after one Vishnu Tomar was arrested in connection with a loot of a trader in Motiganj area of Agra on January 17. Tomar revealed the modus operandi of the gang, involving the policemen.
The SSP said that inquiries revealed that the three policemen had links with the robbers even before they entered the police force. They were posted in the Agra police Lines, but were now absconding.
He said that on January 15 this year, the gang had robbed an oil tanker in Aligarh and after taking possession of it had sold it off.
