Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has broken his silence on the tragic death of 'kar sevaks' in police firing during VHP's Ram temple movement in 1990.

Terming his decision of ordering firing on 'kar sevaks' as “painful", the veteran SP leader said that he ''had had no other option.''


 


The firing had earned the SP chief, then UP chief minister, the nickname of 'Mulla Mulayam'.


Speaking on the occasion of late socialist leader Karpoori Thakur's birth anniversary on Sunday, Mulayam reportedly said firing was the only option to protect the religious site (Babri mosque).
