While West Bengal Police earlier arrested Mita's husband Rana Mondal and father-in-law Dijendra Mondal in connection with her death, her absconding brother-in-law Rahul Mondal was picked up by the CID sleuths later this evening, a senior police officer said.

The Chief Minister announced CID probe at state secretariat Nabanna earlier in the day after meeting Mita's father Sahadeb Das and family members and promised job for one member of the family and taking care of all the debts the family took to get Mita married.

Banerjee also promised to clear a debt of Rs 70,000, which Sahadeb had taken for Mita's marriage, from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and payment of his medical expenses.

Mita, a first-class in MA in Bengali from the Jadavpur University in 2015, allegedly committed suicide on October 11 at her in-law's residence at Kushberia in Uluberia after a spat with her husband Rana Mondal.

After Mita's family alleged that she was tortured and murdered, the police arrested Rana and father-in-law Bijendra, while the mother-in-law and brother-in-law were absconding at that time.

"I know I will not get back my daughter... She has gone forever... We have sought justice from the Chief Minister," Sahadeb, a mason, who lives in Garia, told reporters after meeting Banerjee.

The third arrest was made after the CID team visited the residence of family of Mita's husband and inquired about the incident from the neighbours.

The team also inspected the room where the body was found.

Mita's uncle Ranajit, elder brother Khokan, her JU Bengali Department batchmate Jasodhara Gupta and some others also submitted a written deputation to Uluberia police station demanding fair probe into the incident and arrest of all those allegedly involved including her mother-in-law Kalpana Mondal.
