"In polling station number 20 of Ranibandh Girls High School, it was found that while 140 votes had been cast, the EVM recorded only 48. It was found that the third polling officer had time and again forgotten to unlock the machines before voters cast their votes," state Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta told the media.

The polling official concerned was removed.

Gupta said the recommendation for repoll has been sent to the chief election commissioner.

He said reports of mediapersons being attacked in Salboni in West Midnapore district were being probed.

The CEO's office received 537 complaints during the day, when 18 constituencies spread over three western districts of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia went to the hustings. A total of 531 complaints were disposed of.
