Kolkata: The BJP in West Bengal on Saturday complained to the state election commission alleging that the 10 per cent dearness allowance hike announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was a violation of the model code of conduct.

"After the notification to three corporation elections, one Mahakuma Parishad election and hundreds of three-tier Panchayat elections, any beneficial announcement is contrary to the Model Code of Conduct and liable to disqualification under clause (VI) 6(a)," the BJP said in a letter to state election commissioner S R Upadhyaya.


The Chief Minister yesterday announced a bonanza for state government employees including a new pay commission and a 10 per cent dearness allowance hike from January next, two days after the Central government announced a six per cent hike in DA for its employees.
