China warns Vietnam against `construction work` in South China Sea
`We urge the relevant country to respect our sovereignty and our relevant rights and stop construction activities, Chenese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang.
Beijing: In a blunt message, China on Friday asked Vietnam to stop construction work on a disputed reef in South China Sea.
"China has indisputable sovereignty over Nansha Islands, Riji reef and relevant waters," China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said.
"We urge the relevant country to respect our sovereignty and our relevant rights and stop construction activities.
“And refrain from complicating the situation and work with China to safeguard and peace stability in the South China Sea (SCS)," he told the media, reacting to reports of Vietnam carrying out dredging work there.
China's assertion came as its navy yesterday celebrated 70th anniversary of the capture of the Spratly islands.
