Haunting! World renowned pianist performs while floating in Arctic to save environment - Watch video
Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi performed an original composition, `Elegy for the Arctic`, while floating on a small platform in the Arctic Ocean.
Delhi: When, earlier this month, renowned Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi played a grand piano as pieces of a sprawling glacier crumbled nearby, it was as haunting as can be.
Einaudi performed an original composition, 'Elegy for the Arctic', while floating on a small platform in the Arctic Ocean off the coast of Norway.
He had written the song for the occasion and his performance was sponsored by Greenpeace, which is a global environmental activist group.
This was part of a campaign to persuade world leaders to safeguard the Arctic.
Scientists have warned about Arctic thawing much faster than expected and about its serious implications for the world's climate.
Greenpeace wrote the following when they released the video of Einaudi's performance (as quoted by The Washington Post) - "The Arctic ocean is the least protected sea in the world, its high seas currently have no legal safeguards. As the ice cover decreases with rising temperatures, this unique area is losing its frozen shield, leaving it exposed to reckless exploitation, destructive fishing trawlers and risky oil drilling."
