Washington: Republican presidential candidate John Kasich, the last man standing in controversial billonaire Donald Trump's path to party's nomination, is withdrawing from the race to the White House, a media report here said on Wednesday.
Trump's main rival Texas Senator Ted Cruz dropped out of the race last night after his humiliating defeat in Indiana.
The development, after Trump's decisive win in the Indiana primary, has vituallty sealed the real-estate tycoon's position as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
Kasich's campaign abruptly cancelled an event in the Washington area today and rescheduled a press conference in his his home state Ohio's capital Columbus.
"Governor Kasich will deliver a statement in Columbus, Ohio," the campaign said.
Soon after, NBC news reported quoting his senior advisors that Kasich will suspend his presidential campaign.
Kasich has so far won only one state - Ohio - and has only 153 delegates as against 1,047 by Trump. He is mathematically eliminated from winning the nomination outright.
To be the nominee a candidate has to get at least 1,237 delegates. Now, Trump likely being the only candidate in the race, decks seems clear for him.
