London: For many, the term European migrant crisis was just another jargon until the death of the three-year-old Syrian kid Aylan Kurdi, whose heartbreaking pictures jolted the world out of apathy, leading the countries to throw open the borders and pour in double the amount of aid for refugees.
However, as the humongous crowds of refugees continue to leave their war-stricken countries in the Middle East with the dream of European shores in their eyes, the European nations find themselves at the heart of a refugee crisis, which is worst since World War II.
Conflict in Mideast, especially since the Islamic State cast its evil eye on Iraq and Syria, matters have only grown worse and people along with their families are desperately fleeing their own homes for a better future, unfazed by the fatal risks involved in their journey to Europe.
According to an estimate by the International Organisation for Migration, over 3,50,000 people have undertaken the hazardous sea journey across the Mediterranean, out of which over 2600 migrants have drowned.
Aylan Kurdi, the three-year-old Syrian, was just one of them.
