Saudi Arabia: For the first time in history, Saudi Arabian women will be allowed to caste their vote in the elections in the upcoming December 12, Municipal elections, as per a media report.

King Abdullah had granted Saudi Arabian women the right to vote in In September 2011 and stand in 2015 Municipal elections, as per a report in India Today.


979 women are reportedly standing for this year's elections and a total, 6,917 candidates have registered for elections.


Municipal elections were last held in 2011 in Saudi Arabia.


It was supposed to be held in 2009.


Amnesty International has welcomed the decision.
