Dubai: Two Pakistani men were today sentenced to three years in prison for assaulting an Indian national, before stealing electrical cables worth USD 72,000 in the UAE.
The 50-year-old Indian security guard said on June 18 midnight, six masked men attacked him while he was on duty at the Emirates Electromechanics company in Jebel Ali area.
They restrained and gagged him before asking for location of electric cables. "I was sitting in a chair when they came. I told them Kashif is not in now as he is in the morning shift. The group then held me and took me into a caravan by force where they tied my hands and legs with plastic ropes," Emirates 24-7 quoted the guard as saying.
"They threatened to beat me up and kill me if I called for help and then covered my eyes with a piece of cloth. After about three hours I heard the sound of a vehicle moving out. Then I freed my tied hands and legs. It was about 5am when Kashif came. We called the police and went to check what things were taken by the robbers," he testified.
Sharjah Police stopped two pickup vans loaded with the stolen items and referred them to Dubai Police shortly after. A Dubai Criminal Court convicted the two unemployed Pakistani nationals for assault and robbery in July. They were each sentenced to three years. The investigating officer said the gang sold the stolen cables to a Bangladeshi man in Sharjah. The two men will be deported after completing their jail terms.
