New Delhi: Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has often addressed the issue of depression. The actress had earlier opened up on suffering from depression and is the founder of The Live Love Laugh Foundation (TLLLF), an organization dealing with mental health issues.

Following the suicides of renowned chef Anthony Bourdain and popular designer Kate Spade, that shook the world, Deepika took to Instagram to share an eye-opening post about depression. The actress shared that telling a depressed person to just 'snap out of it' is like telling a person with a broken leg to continue walking.

The post starts off on a startling note, by sharing that every 40 seconds, a person dies from suicide (as per WHO statistics). It then goes on to stress on reveal that we are only reminded of these serious statistics when a prominent person dies.


The post then highlights the deaths of Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade as it reads- 'They did not take their own lives. Depression did.' Deepika's post comes at a time when indeed many lives are being lost to this mental illness. The post encourages people with depression to look for help and asks family members, friends and even co-workers of the victims to ask if they are okay. Depression is one such illness that must not go untreated.
