New Delhi: Considering the difficulties faced by common man in accessing cash from ATMs for meeting their daily needs, government has extended the deadline for using old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes in exempted category till November 14.


One will be able to continue to pay daily utility bills, payments in Courts, airline and Railway bookings, milk booths, crematoriums, government hospitals, cooperative stores in old currency till November 14.


National highways has also been made toll free till November 14


Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das tweeted on Friday. 



As ATMs opened on Friday, nearly 48 hours post Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s announcement that 500 and 1000 rupees notes will no longer be legal tender, long queues and chaos were witnessed outside the ATMs across the nation as people thronged to get new currency notes in lieu of the demonetised currency.


RBI also appealed to members of public on Friday to be patient and urges them to exchange their old notes at their convenience, any time before December 30, 2016.
