10 Major Cars Launched in 2016
Innova Crysta
10. Innova Crysta — Toyota Kirloskar Motor announced the launch of an all new version of its popular multi-purpose vehicle Innova priced up to Rs 20.78 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai) in May. The Innova Crysta comes in two engine options of 2.4 L diesel engine with 5-speed manual transmission and an all-new 2.8 litre diesel engine with 6-speed automatic transmission.
Volkswagen Ameo petrol & Volkswagen Ameo diesel
9. Volkswagen Ameo petrol & Volkswagen Ameo diesel — Volkswagen Ameo was launched at a starting price of 5.14 lakh in June. The vehicle runs on a 1.2-litre MPI three-cylinder petrol engine mated to 5-speed manual gear box. Volkswagen launched the diesel variant of its compact sedan Ameo, priced between Rs 6.33 lakh and Rs 9.31 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in September.
Mahindra NuvoSport
8. Mahindra NuvoSport — Mahindra & Mahindra launched NuvoSport in India at a starting price of Rs 7.35 lakh in April. Mechanically, it is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel from the outgoing Quanto.
Honda BR-V
7. Honda BR-V — Honda Cars India on Thursday launched seven-seater compact SUV BR-V priced between Rs 8.75 lakh and Rs 12.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in May. The new model, which will be manufactured at the company's Tapukara plant, comes with a class-leading 210-mm ground clearance.
Datsun Redi Go
6. Datsun Redi Go — The Datsun redi-GO was launched at an introductory price of Rs 2.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in October. It is known as redi-GO 'Sport' and comes with additional features and aesthetic upgrades, while there are no mechanical changes.
Hyundai Elantra
5. Hyundai Elantra — Hyundai launched its next-generation all-new Elantra at a starting price of Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) in August. The petrol variants, which come with a new 2 litre engine, are priced between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 17.99 lakh. Diesel trims with 1.6 litre engine are priced between Rs 14.79 lakh and Rs 19.19 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).
Hyundai Tucson
4. Hyundai Tucson — Hyundai launched the second generation of the Tucson for India in November, with prices starting at Rs 18.99 lakh for the petrol variants, and at Rs 21.59 lakh for the diesel.
Tata Tiago
3. Tata Tiago — Tata Motors launched its much awaited and much-delayed hatchback 'Tiago' in March. The car was expected to be launched in January, but was pushed back due to renaming process following the spread of Zika virus –the name that was earlier cristened for Tiago.
Renault Kwid AMT
2. Renault Kwid AMT — Renault launched the automated manual transmission (AMT) version of its popular small car KWID at an introductory price of Rs 4.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in November.
Maruti Vitara Brezza
1. Maruti Vitara Brezza — Maruti Suzuki launched its much anticipated compact SUV Vitara Brezza at a starting price of Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in March. Engine specs include an engine of 1248, which musters up a torque measuring to 200Nm@1750rpm and maximum power of 88.5bhp@4000rpm.
