BMW Concept XM previews company's only hybrid 'M' SUV; launch in 2022 - In Pics
For the first time since 1978, BMW will launch its bespoke 'M' SUV and the sports division's first hybrid SUV that has been previewed by unveiling the BMW Concept XM.

BMW unveiled the Concept XM in Miami, US, which is expected to the the biggest market for the BMW XM. Production of the model will begin at Spartanburg, South Carolina – BMW’s largest plant in the world and the home of its SUVs – later in 2022.

The BMW XM gets a battery capacity of greater than 20kWh, promising an electric-only range of up to 80 km, in coherence with a 4.4-litre petrol engine. The total output is rated at 740bhp making this the most powerful BMW road car yet.

The BMW XM will sit atop the BMW range and will compete against the Audi RS Q8, Porsche Cayenne Coupé Turbo S E-Hybrid and Range Rover Sport SVR.

It is the first PHEV from BMW M and the brand hasn't revealed too much information, apart from the twin-turbocharged V8 engine that's mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all wheel drive.

As per BMW, it won't just be a sporty SUV being a M model, but will be a luxury SUV as well, and this will be the the first example of new strategy being carried through to production.
