Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy was born in Karnataka on August 20, 1946. He holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the National Institute of Engineering and a master’s from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. 

Infosys was founded in 1981 by seven engineers, including Narayana Murthy, in a one-bedroom apartment. The company later relocated to Bengaluru from Pune. 

Narayana Murthy is often regarded as the “Father of the Indian IT Sector,” with Infosys now standing as India’s second-largest IT company after Tata Consultancy Services. 

Narayana Murthy’s net worth stands at Rs 36,600 crores, ranking him as the fifth-richest person in Bengaluru and the 69th richest in India.

 

Infosys co-founder, Senapathy Gopalakrishnan, has a net worth of Rs 38,500 crores. He served as CEO and Managing Director from 2007 to 2011 and as Vice Chairman from 2011 to 2014. 

Salil Parekh, the current CEO and Managing Director, is the Indian IT sector’s second-highest-paid CEO, earning Rs 66.25 crores annually in FY24. Salil Parekh took over from interim CEO U. B. Pravin Rao on 2 January 2018. 

Narayana Murthy has been honored with numerous awards, including the Padma Vibhushan and Padma Shri. Other accolades include the Kempegowda Award (2022), Philanthropist of the Year (2013), and Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year (2003).
