Photo Gallery: Delhi metro's Pink Line connecting South Campus-Lajpat Nagar

Delhi Metro's Pink Line between Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus to Lajpat Nagar is set to be thrown open to the public soon. This stretch is part of the 59 km-long Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar corridor –known as Pink Line (also known as the Ring Road Line). The 8.10 km-long section has six stations. The mandatory nod from the Commission of Railway Safety (CMRS) has been given. It is subject to the fulfilment of certain conditions and stipulations, officials have said. According to DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) all the metro network coming under phase 3 construction work will be completed by 2018.

The Pink Line is an almost circular line that passes alongside the Ring Road in the national capital in a U-shaped pattern. The new stations are under the 8.10 km-long section are Sir Vishveshariah Moti Bagh, Bhikhaji Cama Place, Sarojini Nagar, INA, South Extension and Lajpat Nagar. With the opening of this section, the operational span of the Pink Line from Majlis Park to Lajpat Nagar will become 29.66 km and the entire operational span of the DMRC will reach 296 km with 214 stations. The first corridor of the Pink Line, from Majlis Park to South Campus was opened on March 14, connecting north and south campuses of the Delhi University on the DMRC network for the first time.

The Pink line will give connectivity to Delhi's prominent shopping zones like Sarojini Nagar, INA market, South Extension and Lajpat Nagar.

Out of the six stations in the stretch, 5 are underground while one is elevated.

There will be two major interchange facilities –one at INA (with Yellow Line) and Lajpat Nagar (Violet Line).
