It is a solar event that marks the beginning of the spring season, which makes the day longer and symbolizes the end of the winter solstice.

As part of tradition, Khichdi is one of the most important dishes which is made on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. It is also known as Bhuni Dal Khichdi which only has pulses and rice and is made with cumin seeds, turmeric and salt. It is served with ghee, pickle, curd and papad as per the taste.

It is also very important dish for Makar Sankranti as it is served as a Prasad to whosoever visits the house and is the first thing which comes to everyone’s mind when it comes to Sankranti. 

This is a special Makar Sankranti dish which is coming straight away from Bihar. From a politician to a common man, everyone loves it to the core and it is their specialty and is considered very pure and pious on the occasion. 

This is another type of Khichdi, which is made on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and is relished by everyone. In this special type of Khichdi, Papad is fried and then mixed well with the food items.

Once the meal is done, the guests as well as family members are served with Gur ki Gajak which is also one of the sweetest rituals of the festival.
