The flood situation in Assam deteriorated on Thursday (May 19, 2022) with one more person losing his life. The floods in the northeast state has affected as many as 7.18 lakh people in 27 districts.
Death toll rises to 10
According to the update by Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), one person drowned in Kampur revenue circle of Nagaon district, while two more persons are reported to be missing at Kampur. With this, the total number of people losing their lives in this year's flood and landslides has gone up to 10 across the state.
7,17,500 people affected
ASDMA said that more than 7,17,500 people are hit due to floods in Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong West, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts.

A 1 no Bishnupur LP school in Jonai sub-division is surrounded by water. According to a teacher of the school, there are around 29 students in this primary school. "There are 29 students in our school. Many students are not able to attend classes due to the flood situation. Some parents use boats to bring children to school," the teacher said.
Rahul Gandhi urges Cong workers to extend help
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi urged the party workers and leaders to extend all possible assistance to people who are affected by severe flooding in Assam. "Lakhs of people are affected by severe flooding in Assam. I urge Congress workers and leaders to continue extending all possible assistance to the rescue and relief operations," he said in a tweet.
