Heavy rains wreak havoc in Uttarakhand, highways damaged- In Pics

Incessant rainfall has lashed various parts of Uttarakhand over the past few days leading to serious damage to Rishikesh-Gangotri and Rishikesh-Badrinath national highways. The torrential rains have also caused a rise in water level of rivers.

A bridge at Jakhan river on Ranipokhari-Rishikesh highway collapsed due to incessant showers in Dehradun on Friday. Many vehicles were engulfed as Pokhari bridge gave way on Dehradun-Rishikesh highway.

Rishikesh-Gangotri National Highway road

A section of the road on Rishikesh-Gangotri National Highway (NH-94) caved in due to torrential rains in Uttarakhand. Following the collapse, the NH-94 highway was closed for traffic from Narendra Nagar to Chamba while the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway (NH-58) was closed from Tapovan to Maletha, Tehri District Magistrate Eva Ashish Shrivastava said.

A deep-diving team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) carried out rescue operations of people, including a woman, who was trapped on an island in the Song River near Nepali Farm area in Dehradun after the water level rose due to heavy rainfall.

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami conducts inspection of Sahastradhara-Maldevta road

Portions of the Sahastradhara-Maldevta road in Dehradun were also damaged in the rains. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma Kau visited the area on Friday morning to assess the damage and asked District Magistrate R Rajesh Kumar to ensure repair of the road at the earliest.
