The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday (August 9, 2021) predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over several states across India.

 

The weather department said that the eastern end of the Monsoon Trough continues to run close to the foothills of The Himalayas while the western end runs north of its normal position.

 

It also informed that the entire monsoon trough is likely to shift close to the foothills of The Himalayas during the next 24-48 hours causing a weak monsoon spell likely over the country from August 10.

The IMD said that fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is 'very likely' over the northeast and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next five days.

 

It said under the influence of stronger southwesterly or southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal, the rainfall intensity is very likely to increase over these areas from Wednesday (August 11), resulting in isolated extremely heavy falls over Assam and Meghalaya during August 11-13.

Tamil Nadu and Kerala to also witness heavy rains

The India Meteorological Department informed that scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is very likely over Tamil Nadu and Kerala during the next five days with isolated heavy falls over Tamil Nadu during the next five days and over Kerala during the next three days.
