Pilot Baba, born as Kapil Singh in Sasaram, Bihar, had an illustrious career as a Wing Commander in the Indian Air Force. Commissioned in 1957, he participated in the Indo-China war of 1962 and the wars with Pakistan in 1965 and 1971. His extraordinary skills in piloting Gnat aircraft earned him the titles Shaurya Chakra, Vir Chakra, and Vishisht Seva Medal.

However, a miraculous event during a routine flight in the Northeast, where he believed his spiritual guru guided him to safety, marked the turning point in his life, leading him to renounce the world and embrace a spiritual path.

Following his spiritual awakening, Pilot Baba spent seven years in the Himalayas, seeking enlightenment. This period of intense meditation and self-discovery led to his initiation into sainthood, where he became known as Somnath Giri, a name given to him by Gwalior’s Vijayraje Scindia. His transition from a military aviator to a revered spiritual figure was marked by profound inner change, setting the stage for his future as a spiritual leader.

Pilot Baba became widely recognised for his mastery of Samadhi, a state of deep meditation that transcends physical death. He reportedly entered this state over 110 times since 1976, a feat that made him a focal point at religious gatherings such as the Ardh Kumbh.

Pilot Baba, the owner of immense wealth, had already prepared his Samadhi site in 2021 on reportedly disputed land behind the Haridwar ashram. Followers say that while the far-sighted Pilot Baba expressed his final wish, he did not reveal any decision regarding his successor.

In his books, "Unveils Mystery of Himalaya" and "Discover Secret of The Himalaya," Pilot Baba shared the esoteric knowledge he gained during his years of penance in the Himalayas. He claimed to have encountered ancient Hindu mythological figures such as Ashwatthama, Mahavatar Babaji, and Kripacharya, who imparted wisdom that he passed on to his followers.
