The Congress on Tuesday (October 5) said its former president Rahul Gandhi will lead a five-member party delegation to Lakhimpur Kheri on Wednesday, and asked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to allow the visit. Party sources in Delhi said Rahul Gandhi is keen to visit there on Wednesday, days after his sister and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was detained by the Uttar Pradesh Police while on her way to Lakhimpur Kheri.

Equating the barbarous incident of Lakhimpur Kheri with the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi said that the incident was pre-planned to intentionally crush the innocent farmers who were peacefully protesting against the farm laws, ANI quoted the state government as saying. The CM, who left for New Delhi from Chandigarh, will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin he condemned the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. "Farmers have been protesting for the last 300 days against the farm legislations and the ongoing events in Uttar Pradesh are the result of the Centre's indifference to the ryots' demands," he said. Stalin added, "A judicial enquiry should be ordered against those responsible for the violence. The Central government must realise that complete repeal of the three farm laws alone will lead to normalcy and total peace."
