This Is India's Most Delayed Train Ever: Do You Know It Took More Than 3 Years To Reach Andhra To Uttar Pradesh
In India, train delays are quite common. It's normal for trains to be delayed by 8 to 10 hours, but this story will tell about a train that took 3 and a half years to reach its destination.
This train, which departed from its station in 2014, took a staggering four years to reach its destination in 2018. It broke all records for tardiness, covering a distance that usually takes 42 hours and 13 minutes in a remarkable 3.5 years.
In 2014, an Indian Railway train set a new record for delays. A freight train that departed from Visakhapatnam in November 2014 was so delayed that it took 3.5 years to reach its destination at Basti station in Uttar Pradesh.
A train carrying 1,361 packets of fertilizer departed from Visakhapatnam and was supposed to cover a distance of 1,400 kilometres to reach Basti railway station in Uttar Pradesh. The train was carrying goods worth over 14 lakhs. Businessman Ramchandra Gupta had booked the train for the delivery of his fertilizers. The train left Visakhapatnam on schedule, and typically, it would take around 42 hours to complete the 1,400-kilometer journey to Basti. However, the train didn't arrive on time.
When the train did not reach Basti in November 2014, businessman Ramchandra Gupta contacted the railway authorities and submitted multiple written complaints to the department. Despite informing the authorities several times, no action was taken. It was eventually discovered that the train had gone missing en route.
After an investigation, the train loaded with fertilizer finally reached Basti railway station in Uttar Pradesh in July 2018, 3.5 years later. There was no information about where, how, or why the train was delayed or went missing. As a result of this delay, fertilizers worth 14 lakhs were rendered useless. This train is considered to be the most delayed in the history of Indian Railways. (Image: Zee News Hindi)
