Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, said that Mahatma Gandhi's noble principles give strength to millions. "I bow to respected Bapu on Gandhi Jayanti. His noble principles are globally relevant and give strength to millions," said PM Modi on Twitter. Additionally, the prime minister also paid tributes to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary. 

The Uttar Pradesh government recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the suspicious death of a Kanpur-based businessman in a Gorakhpur hotel. The state government has submitted its recommendation to the Centre and till the time CBI takes over the death case, the SIT formed by UP Police will continue with the investigation. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rainfall in seven states - Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Gujarat, as an impact from Cyclone Shaheen, which was formed from the remnants of the cyclonic storm Gulab.
