The counting of votes for the high-stakes assembly polls in states- West Bengal and Tamil Nadu is underway.
As per the initial trends, MK Stalin's party DMK has taken an early lead in Tamil Nadu with 97 seats, while AIADMK is leading on 62 seats.
Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) is seeking to seize power for the third consecutive term in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly.

The Trinamool Congress has crossed the 200-mark in the 294-seat assembly and looks set to a third straight term in West Bengal. The ruling TMC is currently leading in 205 seats, while the BJP is leading in 85 seats at 2 PM.

Chennai celebrates DMK victory
The Election Commission of India has taken serious note of reports coming in of congregation(s) of people to celebrate anticipated victory. The poll body has directed CS of all four states and one UT to file FIR in each such case, suspend SHO of the concerned PS and report the action taken immediately of each such incidence.

DMK chief MK Stalin says that the party's victory is assured. Stalin also asks his party representatives in counting centres to maintain strict vigil and prevent untoward incidents/malpractices. He cautions the party cadre against celebrating or bursting crackers.
